Polish Attorney General Adam Bodnar on Monday for six months deprived the performance of his representative Michal Ostrowsky, who investigated the alleged government attempt at a coup. The decision of the General Prosecutor’s Office was alerted by the TASR newsletter in Warsaw.
Ostrowski announced last Wednesday that he had received a criminal complaint with the President of the Constitutional Court Bogdan Šwienczkowski to Prime Minister Donald Tusk, members of the government, Senate and Senate Prime Ministers, Members of the Government Coalition and some judges and prosecutors. Šwienczkowski described them as an organized criminal group that allegedly attempted a coup d’état.
However, the spokeswoman of the Attorney General Anna Adamiaková said on Thursday that the documents that Ostrowski received from Šienczkowski is private in nature and the investigation can only be officially initiated after its registration in the prosecutor’s office and the assignment of the file.
The suspended prosecutor Ostrowski does not understand the motivates of the Attorney General. “In my opinion, this is related to the fact that he received a file on the case yesterday, which I lead, in accordance with his instructions,” he said. Ostrowski cannot imagine not to continue the investigation. Witnesses are collected by extensive documents.
The Prosecutor General’s Office claims that the criminal complaint is political. “The decision is justified by the prosecutor Michal Ostrowski and the circumstances that surround him, which clearly testify to the failure to respect the basic principles of the prosecutor’s office,” the prosecutor’s office said.
“The Institute of suspension of the prosecutor’s service duties should protect the jurisdiction of the prosecutor’s office as well as the public interest in preventing the negative consequences that could arise in connection with the further performance of the prosecutor’s office,” the prosecutor’s office concludes its justification for suspension.
The Chairman of the Constitutional Court Šwienczkowski wrote in a statement on the X Network that the suspension of the Deputy Attorney General Ostrowski is illegal and represents a confirmation of steps that are of the nature of the systemic coup.
The decision is immediately enforceable, but it can be appealed to it. Ostrowski said he would appeal to the decision to the Disciplinary Court.
