The event of this second is part of the National Commitment Child Literacy, launched in 2023 by the MEC (Ministry of Education). The purpose of the commitment is to ensure that 100% of Brazilian children are literate at the end of the 2nd year of elementary school, as provided for in the National Education Plan.

During the event, the municipalities that reached the gold medal and the awarded states with gold, silver and bronze category were honored. The ceremony was headquartered at the International Convention Center of Brazil in Brasilia.

Lula also used the moment of speech to criticize the fact that managers praise the public education of their respective regions, but enroll their children in private schools. “This country will only work the day that the media class returns to public school. And it will only come back when it gets better,” he said.

To evaluate the actions of the states and municipalities, the MEC instituted a commission responsible for analyzing the initiatives and the classification process.

For states and the Federal District, 21 parameters were established, while for the municipalities, 20. All organized in five dimensions: integration actions, institutionalization of literacy policy in the territory, implementation of literacy policy, teacher training and distribution actions didactic material.

At the ceremony, the Minister of Education congratulated the governors for adhesion and results with politics.

The event was also attended by ministers Juscelino Filho (Communication), Macaé Evaristo (Human Rights), Anielle Franco (racial equality), Luciana Santos (Science and Technology), Marina Silva (environment), as well as other chiefs of the folders.
