The family of engineer Patrícia Amieiro called ‘unbelievable’ the decision of the court to postpone, for the second time, the popular jury of the four accused of the young woman’s disappearance in 2008. The measure was taken after the prosecutor filed an appeal to annul the decision that refused the testimony of a key witness.

The understanding of the court was that it would not be feasible to do the plenary session on Tuesday (11), as expected, because, a new jury must rely on the same evidence presented in the original session. The case will still be analyzed by the eighth Criminal Chamber of the Rio Court of Justice, so there is no date for the new jury.
For the family, it is as if justice did not want to do justice with this postponement. As stated by the engineer’s brother, Adriano Amieiro.
“Our family finds the popular jury not happening today simply because justice did not want to hear the eyewitness of the crime. Guys, it’s an eyewitness and the jury was postponed, when? Will this witness appear? Will she be alive? Who will be responsible for this? This borders on the unbelievable. Our lawyers, other lawyers, prosecutor, everyone is based on article 209, which states that the judge could, yes, hear the witness at any time, ”he argued.
The four accused are military police. In the process, Marcos Paulo Nogueira and Willian Luís Nascimento respond for attempted murder. Fábio Silveira Santana and Marcos Oliveira, for procedural fraud.
The new jury was marked after the emergence of a witness in 2020, which annulled the entire first trial. A taxi driver stated that he was behind the engineer’s car and said he saw not only the moment when PMs fired in the young woman’s car, but also her withdrawal from the vehicle, still alive.
