Trump ceases the head of the Office of Government Ethics, responsible for preventing conflicts of financial interests

The president of the United States, has dismissed the head of the Office of Government Ethics, David Huitema, who will be replaced interimly by the current Secretary of Affairs of Veterans, Doug Collins.

The agency has confirmed on Monday on its website the cessation of Huitema, which has been just several months in office, after being nominated by the former president and confirmed by the US Senate last November.

Initially, the agency announced Shelley Finlayson, who has been working at the agency since 2006, as its interim director, but the president has appointed Republican former Congressman Collins instead.

The presidential personnel office notified the now former director of his dismissal through an email sent on Friday night, as Huitema has declared.

“My feeling is that the president does not want the Office of Government Ethics or really anyone with an independent voice to address the concerns that are raised,” he said, ensuring at the same time that he does not know that a concrete action of the agency has precipitated the decision of the Chief of the White House.

Huitema, who has worked for almost 20 for the government and has been an ethics official within the State Department, has described as “disappointing” that his work at the head of the agency ends “without any explanation or notice.”

It should be remembered that this Monday the Democratic Senator for the State of California, Adam Schiff, had addressed the “Tsar of Ethics” and the Chief of Cabinet of the White House, Susie Wiles, requesting information on an alleged conflict of interests by interest by interest of the billionaire owner of Tesla and director of the newly created government efficiency department, Elon Musk.

The main mission of the Office of Government Ethics is “to prevent conflicts of interest from the employees of the Executive Power, working to ensure that they make impartial decisions based on the public interest, serve as good administrators of public resources and adhere loyally to The Constitution and Laws of the United States, “says a note published on its website.
