Operation against Cosa Nostra had 1,200 agents; Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni celebrates results
The Italian police detained 147 members of the Cosa Nostra organization in Palermo, Sicily, this Thursday (11.Fev.2025).
The largest operation against the mafia since 1984 involved the participation of 1,200 police officers and extended to other cities in order to dismantle criminal networks that maintain dominance over the region.
The detainees face various accusations, including attempted murder and drug trafficking.
The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni (brothers of Italy, right), celebrated the result. “The fight against the mafia does not stop and will never stop”he said.
The 1984 operation resulted in a trial carried out two years later. There were 346 convictions of members of Cosa Nostra.
