The Republic 14, in Olhão, continues its programming dedicated to the best of national jazz and receives this Saturday, January 15, the Leon Baldesberger’s Meersalz project, with sessions at 19:00 and 21:30.
Luso-Helvatic trumpeter and composer Leon Baldesberger leads this innovative project that stands out in the contemporary Portuguese jazz panorama. With over 10 years of course and four acclaimed albums, Meersalz has a unique fusion of minimalism, thematic complexity and improvisation, resulting in a vibrant and challenging sound.
The latest album, Nim, released in 2023, features Sara Badalo’s special participation in the voice (absent in this concert) and Desidério Lazarus in the baritone saxophone, which add new sound layers to the base quintet.
Described by Jazz.pt magazine as a “jazz-rock that escapes the gender-common places,” Meersalz has been gaining prestigious stages in Switzerland, Germany, Portugal and Spain.
For this concert in Republic 14, the formation will feature Leon Baldesberger (trumpet), Desidério Lázaro (baritone saxophone), Miguel Martins (guitar), Leo Vrillaud (piano), Luís Henrique (bass) and João Melro (drums).
