The candidate for the liberal initiative (IL) to the presidential elections, Mariana Leitão, does not know what to think of Henrique Gouveia and Melo. In turn, he thinks Luís Marques Mendes is far from representing “ambition” he defends so much.
In an interview with Antena 1 program, the candidate for Belém by IL Mariana Leitão confessed to having difficulty subscribing to the “two or three interventions” of the putative candidate Gouveia and Meloconsidering that an election of a military man could question the relationship between politics and military forces.
“I’m not afraid of Gouveia and Melo, because I don’t know who it is Gouveia and Melo in concrete (…) We don’t know what you think … Not knowing exactly what you think and defends, the Admiral has had two or three interventions in the public square with ideas that I have difficulty subscribing, ”he said .
Asked afterwards, whether it would be a setback to have a military man again in Belém, Mariana Leitão replied: “The balance between political and military areas is important, but when we have a military or a former military man again in the Presidency of the Republic call into question this balance“He added.
In the same interview, the liberal candidate also attacked Marques Mendes. Mariana Leitão thinks that the former PSD leader is far from defending the pillars he defended in the presentation of his candidacy, namely the “ambition”.
“I don’t think Marques Mendes can represent this ambition. We are talking about a person who lacks the conviction that different policies need to have different results. And Marques Mendes is part of the story where, in recent decades, we have always had the same policies waiting for, by miracle, to have different results, ”he said.
As for the non-existent socialist candidate, Mariana Leitão accused Pedro Nuno Santos of walking to the drift and hunting of the best profile that suits him: “It seems to me that The PS is a little derived and is trying to shape the profile to the extent of the candidate who will want to support. Since, however, things change, they adapt this profile to what is most convenient to it, ”he said.

Mariana Leitão also said that the Next President should dissolve Parliament and summon elections if the next state budget is not approved: “Because it is worse to live in twelfths and political instability.”
