The Armed Forces of Poland denounced on Tuesday a violation of their airspace by a Russian plane that traveled near the waters of the Gdansk Gulf, located in the north of the European country.
The operational command of the Armed Forces has detailed in a statement that the radars detected a Russian SU-24MR aircraft about 14.09 hours (local time). The device toured about 6.5 kilometers for about a minute, although shortly after changing the course.
“The Polish services in charge of supervising the airspace contacted the Russian part, which confirmed the violation of the Polish airspace and reported that it was caused by a failure of the navigation system of the SU-24MR plane,” he said.
Meanwhile, the medium He has reported that Poland launched F-16 combat airplanes in response to large-scale attack with missiles and non-manned aircraft from Russia against Ukrainian territory, citing information from the operational command of the Armed Forces of Poland.
“Attention, in relation to the attack of the Russian Federation to the facilities located in the territory of Ukraine, Poles and Allied aircraft have begun to operate in our airspace,” said the Poland’s Armed Forces command in a statement. Apparently, these measures aimed to guarantee the security in the bordering regions with the threatened territories. Polish and ally aviation was on alert.
These types of incidents are relatively common, although since the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, war declared Ukraine on February 24, 2022 countries have paid more attention to the violation of his airspace.
