President Lula (PT) said on Tuesday (11) during an event with mayors from all over the country that they will ask “Lulinha stay” when their mandate reaches the end.
“I’m very humble, but I doubt that in the history of this country there was a president who has already taken care of the mayors how I took care of all the mandates. And when the mandate is over you will say, ‘Lulinha, stay. Because we need a president ‘”, he said.
The statement was given during the first day of the meeting of new mayors and mayors, which runs until Thursday (13) and brings together mayors and municipal managers from all over the country.
The event, coordinated by the Presidency’s Institutional Relations Secretariat (SRI), aims to strengthen dialogue between cities and the federal government, in a post defeat of the PT in key cities for the party in this year’s municipal elections.
In his speech, Lula highlighted the work of the mayors and the need for partnership between municipal management and the federal government.
Throughout his lines, Lula was widely applauded, but received the cry of “stop being a liar, boy” by saying that cities led by opposition names would not receive different treatment in his government.
“There will be no hypothesis of a Banco do Brasil, BNDES fails to serve someone for ideological reasons. We know how the opposition is treated in this country and not much time,” he said.
“But the concrete data is that I want you to be aware and absolute. As long as I am the President of the Republic, no mayor and no mayor will be discriminated against in not my party.”
The event was attended by the presidents of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), and Senate, David Alcolumbre (Brazil-AP Union), and most of the government ministers. Finance Minister Fernando Haddad did not participate.
Among the local heads that were present, the mayors João Campos (PSB), from Recife, and Eduardo Paes (PSD), from Rio. The ceremony was held at the Ulysses Guimarães Convention Center, in Brasilia
In addition to SRI, the realization is led by CNM (National Confederation of Municipalities), the same organization responsible for the march of municipalities, an event in which, in May this year. At the time, the main demand was the exemption of the payroll of the municipalities.
The president of CNM, Paulo Ziulkoski spoke at the meeting and thanked Lula and returned to the budget problem of the municipalities. In an interview prior to Sheetto send funds to cities, especially in case of disasters.
“Many say that the confederation is a union, which is the mayors, but we are here as citizens, not as mayors,” he said on Tuesday.
ABM (Brazilian Association of Municipalities) and the National Front of Mayors (FNP) also make up the organization of the event this Tuesday.
About 170 simultaneous activities are planned with information on guidelines and guidance on federal government programs and available resources, as well as technical, administrative and financial information about the municipalities.
Topics such as facing climate issues and extreme events, human rights, citizenship and local management, integration policies, public safety and energy transition are also on the agenda.
In addition, government and managers discuss the institutional relationship of municipalities with ministries and other government agencies and the federative pact.
The event is sponsored by Post Office, Sebrae, Banco do Brasil and Caixa Econômica Federal, with Serpro (Federal Data Processing Service) and Petrobras as institutional partners.
