Pete Hegseth also said that returning to the Ukrainian borders before 2014, before the Russian invasion of Crimea and Eastern Ukraine, is not realistic.

Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said on Wednesday that the war between Ukraine and Russia must end. She informed that, according to Trump’s Defense Minister Kiev’s entry into NATO, it is no longer realistic and the US will no longer favor European and Ukrainian security, as Donald Trump’s administration is moving its attention to securing its own US borders and averting war with China.

Hegseth is not going to send American soldiers to ensure peace in Ukraine after the war. “The United States does not believe that Ukraine’s membership in NATO is a realistic result of peace negotiations,” he said. He added that any security guarantees offered to Ukraine “must be supported by capable European and non -European units.”

Return to the borders before 2014 does not see as real

The head of the Pentagon, who is known for the statements that he does not care what will be with Ukraine, is now at a meeting of the contact group to defend Ukraine in Brussels. He also stated that the return to the borders of Ukraine before 2014, before the Russian invasion of Crimea and Eastern Ukraine, is not realistic.

Pete Hegseth reiterated the ally of Donald Trump’s request that NATO Member States should increase their own defense spending to 5 % of GDP from the current 2 %, as they are no longer enough. However, several countries do not currently meet 2 %.

As an example that the Allies should follow, it highlighted Poland, which spends almost 5 % of GDP on defense. At the same time, the US Secretary of Defense admitted that an agreement on peace with Russia is possible.
