A Chamber of Deputies approved on Wednesday (12), by 273 votes to 136, the bill that creates the National Day for Climate Actionto be celebrated annually in April 27.
The date will be focused on preventing extreme climate events and natural disasters. The text now goes to the analysis of Senate.
The intention is to institute the date for the promotion of awareness actions in child education, elementary and high school, public and private education education institutions.
The bill is from Mrs Duda Salabert (PDT-MG). The rapporteur, Deputy Pompeo de Mattos (PDT-RS), highlighted in the plenary the increase of extreme climate events, such as rains and floods last year in his state, Rio Grande do Sul.
The rapporteur also mentioned that the project does not imply budget expense.
“The chosen date marks exactly the beginning of the rains in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, that unprecedented climate tragedy that the gauchos suffered and suffered a lot. Continue to suffer. We suffer on the skin, I can speak because I saw and lived, ”he said.
For the text, if April 27 falls on a weekend, national, state or municipal holiday, the commemorative date on climate action will be held on the first business day after the date.
The inclusion of the project on the agenda was a request from the PSD bench. The projects planned for voting this week were agreed last week by party leaders. At the beginning of the year, the mayor, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), has prioritized to vote for non-controversial issues.
A project on climate action has also been prioritized in the debates with the approach of the 30th Conference of the United Nations Combination Parties on Climate Change, which will be held in Belém, between November 10 and 21, 2025.
