Casa Álvaro de Campos, in Tavira, hosts this Friday, February 14, at 6:30 pm, session 88 of the Poemus cycle, an event that celebrates the merger between poetry and music. The show, entitled “Between Notes and Words”, will feature Celso Candeias in Voz and Marcelo Montes to the piano.
The show proposes an intertwining between the intensity of the poetic word and the emotional depth of the piano sound. Through a sensory fusion, poetry comes to life in the interpreter’s voice, while the pianist creates sound landscapes that dialogue with each word. The event invites the audience to a lyrical and musical trip, where words find echo in musical notes, creating an intimate space for reflection, emotion and beauty.
On Saturday, February 15, at 6:30 pm, the auditorium of the Tavira Municipal Library hosts another session of the conferences in winter-History of the Algarve, with the communication of Marco Sousa Santos, entitled “a newly discovered five-year-old iconographic program: the parietal paintings of the Chapel of the Senhor dos Passos (Tavira) ”.
During the recent conservation and restoration works at the Santa Maria do Castelo Church in Tavira, traces of eighteenth -century parietal paintings were identified in the side chapel dedicated to the Lord of Passos. However, under these, even older paintings emerged, dating from the late sixteenth century. Performed the fresh, these paintings fully fill the wall cloths between the ribs of the chapel vault, presenting a rich and unusual iconographic program. The set includes musical angels and symbolic elements related to the ancient chapel organ, possibly linked to devotion to Our Lady of the Rosary.
The conference will address the detailed study of this newly discovered set of five-year-old parietal paintings, one of the most extensive and elaborate identified in the Algarve region, and its historical and artistic importance.
