End of mystery: Police concludes that guinea gunman is a public servant; know

After 23 days of investigation, the Civil Police concluded the, occurred at dawn on January 11 this year. Delegate Thiago Parente confirmed that a hospital employee João Câncio Fernandes, identified as Marcos Vinícius Furtado Silva, was indicted for attempted murder in formal competition – due to both acts – and illegal possession of a restricted weapon, a 9 mm pistol.

According to the delegate, there was no doubt about the authorship of the crime, and the delay in completion of the inquiry occurred due to conflicts in witness testimonials. “The delay was to ensure the smoothness of the investigation and prevent innocent people from being indicted,” said Parente.

Police did not request the custody of Marcos Vinicius, and he is free. However, the suspension of the inauguration of the accused was suspended.

During the investigations, police identified two people who tried to disrupt the progress of the case by taking false testimony to try to innocent the shooter. According to the survey, these are two women, who were indicted for this crime and will respond as provided for in the Code of Criminal Procedure.

According to the investigation, shortly after the crime, Marcos Vinícius would have presented a medical certificate, claiming to have injured due to a body fight with some people after the shots. Therefore, during this period, he would not have attended the work shift at the João Câncio Fernandes Hospital, where he operates.

Next Steps

With the inquiry concluded, the case was sent to the judiciary and the prosecutor, which may request at any time the preventive arrest of the accused. As this is a crime against life, the court will decide whether Marcos Vinícius Furtado Silva will be tried by the Jury Court.

The investigation was attended by delegate Rivania Franklin, who was on duty on the day of the incident. The Civil Police reinforced their commitment to guarantee a transparent and effective investigation for justice to be done.
