The government of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) and the Commission on Political Dead and Missing (CEMDP), a collegiate linked to the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship (MDHC), evaluate the case of the death of former President Juscelino Kubitschek , occurred in 1976.

The case, officially dealt with as a traffic accident, whose causes are a reason for controversy since the military dictatorship, is once again analyzed in the face of new evidence that doubt the official version.

CEMDP will hold a public hearing on the subject on Thursday afternoon (13) and, on Friday (14), the board should discuss the possibility of recognizing new cases of people killed and missing during the dictatorship.

The commission is expected to take the referral of new recognition requests, including JK.

The former president and his driver, Geraldo Ribeiro, suffered the accident early in the evening of 22 August 1976. Opal, in which they traveled, was traveling on Via Dutra, towards Rio de Janeiro, when, permanently, invaded The opposite track and crashed into a trailer. The two died.

At the time, the investigations, conducted by the regime, concluded that the car was hit by a bus before colliding with the trailer.

But recent investigations pointed to the possibility of mechanical sabotage, intoxication or even a driver shot, reinforcing the thesis that Kubitschek was the target of a political attack.

The new investigations generated uncertainties, especially after the testimony of the bus driver involved, who claimed to have been bribed to blame for the accident.

In addition, exams not performed at the time, as toxicological in the driver, and the lack of in -depth searches, reinforce the idea that the case was poorly investigated.
