Governor of RS met with Alexandre Silveira (Minas and Energy) and asked for a 10 -year extension for Candiota Plant 3
The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, (PSDB), met on Wednesday (12.FEV.2025) with the Minister of Mines and Energy, to deal with the reactivation of Candiota 3. The unit located in Candiota ( RS) has been without operation since January this year, when the production and energy supply contract has ended.
The governor and other congressmen from Rio Grande do Sul is that the government edits an MP (provisional measure) for the plant to operate for at least 10 years. Last year, Congress articulated an amendment at the Wind PL (Bill) offshore Which guaranteed a subsidy for the hiring of existing gas and coal thermal energy by 2050, but the president (PT) vetoed the device.
The new 10 -year term is justified as a deadline for the region to advance with an energy transition policy. Leite said that the state asks nothing but what was granted to the coal plants of Santa Catarina in 2022. Governor Gaucho also asks the benefit to extend to the thermals of Paraná.
The meeting was a milk request to which Silveira answered. In an event held to present the proposal, Silveira was unsure if the MP’s proposal will advance. He said it is a decision that needs to be made together within the government, but would propose the idea to Lula.
MP edition can decrease the momentum of part of the congress to overthrow Lula’s vetoes in the wind of wind offshore. Congress will still focus on the vetoes.
