The Board of the PCP regional organization regrets the decision of the President of the Republic not to promulgate the law that would allow the replacement of 17 parishes in the Algarve, namely Baron of St. John, Bensafrim, Alcantarilha, Pera, Algor, Tunes, Tôr, Querença , Benamim, Conceição de Faro, Estoi, Steel, Moncarapacho, Light of Tavira, Saint Stephen, Cabanas de Tavira and Conceição de Tavira.
The replacement of these parishes represents, according to the party structure, a struggle and a will manifested by the populations. The PCP doral recalls that “the whole process of popular and political struggle of the PCP and elected CDU, which, for over 12 years, rejected this attack on local democratic power, an April achievement, avenged in popular and consecrated force in the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic. The organization considers that the decision of the President of the Republic reveals “an attitude of contempt for the popular will and its representative organs.” It further underlines that this replacement does not result from autonomous legislative initiatives of the Assembly of the Republic, but from the application of the Creation Law approved in 2021, which translates the will expressly manifested by each parish in processes involving populations and municipal bodies.
The PCP reaffirms “its disagreement with the arguments used by the PR and with great confidence in the ability of local agencies to be able to comply with the breakdown of the disaggregation and the creation of the new parishes, in time for the next municipal elections of September/October”.
“Parishes are proximity, democratic participation and the best response to local problems. The replacement of parishes is a factor of political and social development, there is no contradiction with economic issues, on the contrary, what is revealed in this process is the use of false arguments for reactionary political forces contrary to April and their achievements, ”he says the PCP doral in a statement.
The party argues that “there are all the conditions to, within the legal deadlines, the Assembly of the Republic confirm the diploma and do justice to the populations and their right to see their parish and representative bodies back. PS and PSD in particular (arrives and Il are against replacement), have the opportunity to show clearly and without more maneuvers if they are committed to replacement of the parishes or want to take refuge, covered by the unfortunate decision of the president, to consummate What for more than ten years have tried, that is, not to return the parishes to the populations. ”
The PCP guarantees that it will continue to intervene in defense of parishes and populations, noting that “these populations, like all others, can count on the intervention of the PCP and the CDU elected, this intervention that was present when fought against its extinction and that to this day has always been present to remove obstacles and achieve, against the will of others, the realization of the replacement of the parishes ”.
