Hungarian Minister of Foreign Péter Szijjártó on Thursday in Belgrade criticized the European Union for attitude to the integration of Serbia. According to MTI, criticism of Hungarian diplomacy chief was heard at a joint press conference with Serbian counterpart Mark Djurič, the TASR newsletter in Budapest informs.
To the attitude of Brussels Szijjártó noted that It is a shame and a manifestation of cowardice, that it still prevents Serbia from entering the EU. However, Hungary continues to support Belgrade’s efforts to enter, he stressed.
“The European Union has huge problems, its competitiveness has fallen very low and in this situation it needs a new impulse that could come from the Western Balkans, where Serbia plays a leading role. Today, the Union should at least be of the same interest in the admission of the Western Balkan countries to the EU as they do about membership, “Szijjártó said.
In his words, both the Hungarian and Serbian government attribute the strategic importance of the constant development of bilateral relations, which is particularly needed at present, when the new world order is formed.
