The EP condemned the “manipulated” Georgian elections from 26 October.
On Thursday, the European Parliament adopted with the vast majority of the resolution, refusing the legitimacy of the “self -appointed Georgian authorities”. At the same time, it called on the country to organize new parliamentary elections under international supervision and by an independent administration, TASR writes according to DPA report.
The EP in the resolution condemns the “manipulated” Georgian elections of October 26. They were accompanied by serious irregularities, including intimidation of voters, voting manipulation or interfering in the activities of elections and media observers.
They did not recognize the results of the elections
The pro -Western opposition parties did not recognize the outcome of the elections in which the Georgian Dream Party won. Many opposition MPs subsequently refused to take the mandate in Parliament.
Since the end of October, mass street protests have been held in the country against the ruling party, which intensified after the Prime Minister postponed Georgia’s accession negotiations with the EU by the end of 2028. The police were also charged with the use of violence and torture.
At the same time, the European Parliament called on the EU and its Member States to impose sanctions on Georgian officials who seem to be responsible for the departure from democracy in the country. These include, for example, Prime Minister Irakli Kobachidze, Mayor of Tbilisi Kach Kaladze, President of Parliament Salva Papuašvili and former Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanišvili.
“Parliament expresses deep regret that the Georgian dream party has gone from the way to European integration and NATO membership. Parliament therefore re -expresses its unwavering support to the legitimate European aspirations of the Georgian people, “the EP said.
