The National Forum Against (FNCP) released alarming data on the impact of Brazil in 2024. The country faced a historical record of losses, with losses that exceeded R $ 468 billion. This amount includes direct industry losses, which totaled almost R $ 328 billion, as well as a tax evasion of R $ 140 billion generated by the illegal market. Edson Vismona, president of the National Forum, stressed that illegality is a growing structural problem in the country, driven by high profitability and low risk associated with these activities.

The clothing sector was the most affected, recording losses over R $ 87 billion. Other sectors also suffered significant impacts, including alcohol, fuels, personal hygiene, perfumery and cosmetics. The smuggling of cigarettes is a particular concern, with the Federal Police seizing 59 million illegal packs last year. IPEC data indicate that the illegal cigarette market moved about R $ 9 billion, resulting in a tax evasion of R $ 7.2 billion.

Edson Vismona pointed to the high Brazilian tax burden as one of the factors that favor the illegal market. In particular, the selective tax on health -harmful products makes legal products more expensive, benefiting criminal organizations that do not pay taxes. In response to this crisis, her intensified her efforts to combat illicit trade in the country. In 2024, more than R $ 3.7 billion were seized in illegal products.
