Grain production should grow 11.1% compared to 2024, with significant increase in soy; planted area will also be higher
The (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) projects that the Brazilian crop of cereals, legumes and oilseeds will reach 325.3 million tons by 2025. The number represents growth of 11.1% compared to 2024, equivalent to 32.6 million of more tons. The data are contained in the systematic survey of January agricultural production, released on 13.FEV.2025.
The area to be harvested should reach 80.9 million hectares, growth of 2.4% compared to 2024. The increase represents 1.8 million additional hectares.
Soy leads projections with an estimated crop of 166.5 million tons, an increase of 14.9% over 2024. Oiloginosa should represent more than half of the country’s total grain production, with an average yield of 3,519 kg/ha.
Corn appears in second place, with expected production of 124.1 million tons, up 8.2%. The first crop should reach 25.2 million tons, with an increase of 10%, while the second crop is estimated at 98.9 million tons, growth of 7.8%.
Among the other cultures, rice should reach 11.5 million tons, up 8.3%. Beans are expected to be forecast of 3.4 million tons, an increase of 10.9%. Cotton should reach 9 million tons, growth of 1.6%, and sorghum at 4.2 million tons, high of 5.4%. Only the wheat has a decrease of 3.3%, reaching 7.3 million tons.
Conab (National Supply Company) has similar projection, estimating 325.7 million tons for the 2024/25 crop, growth of 9.4%. Differences in numbers result from distinct methodologies-IBGE uses the calendar year, while Conab considers the sapro year.
