Power360 – There are already some rankings that evaluate the work of politicians. What is the difference in parliament?
João Camargo – It is completely different. We will make the ranking for efficiency. There will be a list of about 50 deputies and 20 senators and our jurors will be former presidents of the legislative houses. I will talk to everyone. They will keep those who consider the most relevant. We will not take into consideration if the deputy missed in a few sessions, if the deputy used a little more cabinet money, or a little less. We will see if the deputy efficiently covered his mandate, the decisive votes. This is the criterion.
Is it a more qualitative than quantitative analysis?
I studied a lot for the ranking. There are ranking that accounts for the number of law projects and many of them are irrelevant, such as kite day and the like. Let’s not look at these criteria, we will look at efficiency. Therefore the sphere is opening the parliament house, which is totally nonpartisan. But we have flags. We are in favor of capitalism and the lean state.
And how many people will be awarded annually?
We don’t have the dimension yet. Casa Parliament will get traction from the 19th. It is an open, totally republican house with compliance. We will debate the themes of the commissions, invite congressmen to dialogue with society. What is our main motto? There is no good government without a well-organized civil society. Yes, there will be an agenda for members, federations, entities. It will be a weekly meetings, a lunch, a meeting before the commissions open, a breakfast. And there will always be this public debate.
The sphere is also launching an institute for academic research. How is the process?
It is advanced. We will present the first research in Parliament. We have also published the announcement for master’s and doctoral students to participate, we set up advice with former college rectors, graduated teachers. We want studies on inefficiency, such as improving the legislative machine, bureaucracy. On Friday [14.fev.2025] We will have a meeting with Central Bank President Gabriel Galipolo. You are a communication entrepreneur and have several radios. Recently, you bought the Transamérica radios. What is the future of radios?
Radio is the media that never falls. As long as automakers produce cars and cars come with radio, we will have it in our ear. Large cities like São Paulo have miles of congestion, especially in the rain. We have Alpha radio for adults, 89, which is rock, Disney, younger. And we had proven audience records. The radio is a companion, tells you of time, from the beach, gives news, speaks of the dollar. We believe a lot in this environment.
CNN first closed in blue in 2024. What was the result?
TV is a complicated branch, but we succeeded not only with revenues, which put us in blue, but we will start a campaign next week about the results. How many journalists and employees at CNN?
CNN has 500 employees. And Core, which is journalism, represents 88%. It’s 19 hours a day live, hard news. It’s a lot of staff on the street, a lot of coverage. And we, who is being an absolute success.
In addition to revenues, there was a work of reducing and optimizing expenses. Can you talk a little about how this work was done?
It was done immediately as soon as I entered. It was November 2022, after the 2nd round. I had to adjust the size of CNN. You can’t compare with CNN International. I called the class and said, “We have no money. We have to make the company a CNPJ. This is not a utopia, it’s not a state -owned company. ” It was a horror, as if I was scratching the eardrums I was listening to. Before, they asked for more money for Conei, which is the holding of my partner, Rubens Menin. He said we were not going to ask for more. We would have to work with what we collected. It was a revolution. We had 30 days to decrease in size. There were 1,100 employees. It was difficult for dumb. There was a day that I left 1 am and came back at 6. Then people said to me, “But John, why don’t we play it for February?” I said, “This is a cancer patient. In February it may have metastasis. I will operate the tumor in December and pray so that it has no metastasis. ” I was very hard, the market thought I wouldn’t make it, but we made a gigantic turn around. Today is a successful channel, we are double the 2nd place in Hard News. When I entered, it was 20% of the size of the 1st place.
The pay -TV market is swollen in Brazil. It’s at least 6 players. Is there still space?
I don’t believe in pay TV. Our channel is fully open. I don’t want to charge for news, I want the news to be as democratized as possible. Our goal is to give news without extreme and less adjective. The CNN viewer has to play the news. I don’t want to guide or be biased to one side or the other.
How do entrepreneurs evaluate the Lula administration?
We are all passengers of this plane and we all wish you continue to flight in a brigadeiro sky. It has a great effort from President Lula and the entrepreneurs are wanting to believe it will work. Lula has recently given positive signals, changing communication, giving interviews alongside Haddad, saying that he is not thinking of creating taxes. The dollar, when it rises, rises as elevator and descends by stairs, but is almost on the ground again.
