French President Emmanuel Macron warned of peace in Ukraine, which would represent “surrender”. According to him, Europe must also play a role in determining the regional security framework that will accompany any agreement to end the war. He said this in Friday’s interview for the Financial Times (FT), TASR reports.
“Peace that is a surrender” would be “bad news for all”, Macron said shortly after US President Donald Trump reported on his call with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. Trump announced on Thursday plans to start negotiations on the end of almost three years of war. He added that Putin wants peace.
Macron stressed that he would be in Ukraine to discuss issues of its territory and sovereignty. In his words, however, Europe must play a role in regional security.
“It is in the international community, with the special role of Europeans to discuss security guarantees and in the broader sense of the security framework for the whole region. That’s where we have a role, ”said the French president. Europe must be strengthened and reiterated its own future.
