South Korean director Bong Joon Ho debuted his long-awaited black humor science fiction comedy, “Mickey 17“In London on Thursday (13), his first movie since the Oscar winner“ Parasite ”.
Based on Edward Ashton’s novel, the film starred in Robert Pattinson as Mickey Barnes, a former confectionery chief in the unusual situation of having to die to live. As a “dispensable” on a mission to colonize a distant planet, Mickey is forced to die and return to life, each time as a new version of himself.
“The movie asks the question: We are all human, but how to live a more human life? ”Bong told Reuters through a translator.
“This guy is someone who is too good for his own good, unfortunate things happen to him and, in the movie, he can somehow find his own journey to regain his individuality and I think that, in this process, many people who also have Extreme jobs can find comfort on Mickey’s journey. ”
Bong made history in the Oscar of 2020 when “parasite”, a dark social satire about the difference between rich and poor in modern Seoul, became the first non-English tongue movie to win the best film award, the greatest honor in industry cinematic. The film has won a total of four Oscars, including best director and original script for Bong.
Asked about the pressure he felt when making his next movie, Bong said: “I was already in the 50 -year -old (when) and I tend not to get excited as a person. I just kept my calm and did the same thing, and it was the same for this movie. ”
In the movie, Mickey’s suicidal missions include exposure to a deadly virus and creature colony that are part insects and mammals part.
“Usually the science fiction scripts follow a certain pattern, and with this I thought” what’s going on? “Bong has a unique view of reality and narrative, which made me very excited.”
“Mickey 17”, which is also starring Toni Collette, Naomi Ackie, Mark Ruffalo and Steven Yeun, is beginning to be released in theaters on February 28 in South Korea and other countries from March 5.
