The president of the United States, Donald Trumphe said on Thursday that Russian and American authorities will meet in Munich on Friday and that Ukraine was also invited, although the Ukrainian government has said it does not expect to negotiate with Russia in the German city.
“There will be a meeting in Munich tomorrow. Russia will be there with our people. By the way, Ukraine was also invited. I am not sure who will be there in each country, but important people from Russia, Ukraine and the United States, ”said Trump.
When asked for more details about the meeting, the White House refused to comment. Political and military leaders from around the world are in Germany for the Munich Security Conference.
Ukraine is not expecting to negotiate with Russia in Munich on Friday and believes that the US, Europe and Ukrainians need to have a common position before sitting with Moscow, a communication counselor of the country’s president Volodymyr Zelenskiy said .
“We are not hoping to have conversations with the Russians in Munich,” said counselor, Dmytro Lytvyn.
The Russian embassy in Washington and the country’s mission in the United Nations (UN) in New York did not immediately respond to requests to comment on the president’s words.
