The striker was arrested: he is a 23 -year -old Syrian man
A 23 -year -old man stabbed five passers -by in Villach, a city in southern Austria, agencies citing local police. A 14 -year -old was killed and four people were injured in the attack. The injured are aged 14 to 32 years.
The suspect was arrested by the police. It is a Syrian citizen with legal residence in Austria. Police spokesman Rainer Dionisio told AFP that he is a Syrian asylum applicant with a valid residence permit and no criminal record.
The attack occurred around 4:00 pm local hours (15:00 in Lisbon) near the main square of Villach, a 300 -kilometer city from Vienna and near the south near the Italy border and Slovenia.
No more details are known, such as if the striker knew any of the victims. Police are not yet sure if the suspect acted on his own and therefore continues to look for other possible suspects.
