China wants to sit at the table. With regard to Ukraine, the events seem to be overturning with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin since the phone call of the new US President Donald Trump. Officially, Beijing welcomes the developments and expresses a diplomatic manner: “China is happy about increased communication and a dialogue between Russia and the USA on a number of international issues,” said a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Thursday. “With regard to the Ukraine crisis, China believes that dialogue and negotiations are the only viable path out of the crisis and is actively committed to promoting peace talks.” Behind the scenes, however, it is becoming apparent that China is looking for an active role in current developments.
