João Fonseca obtained a difficult and significant victory on Friday afternoon (14) in Argentina. The 18 -year -old saw the defeat closely and had to save two match points to silence the crowd at the ATP 250 of Buenos Aires and beat local tennis player Mariano Navone for 2 sets to 1, partial 3/6, 6/4 and 7 /5.
The triumph first took him in his career to the semifinals of an ATP -level tournament of the Challengers, devoted especially to players in formation. He had already reached the quarterfinals twice and lost precisely to Navone in one of them last year’s Open River.
Overcomed at home by the Argentine, the carioca took the change in Buenos Aires, impressively. Without finding the accuracy he was looking for in his blows, he lost his first set and, after the draw in the second, he again made mistakes. Putting 3/5, however, left a 15/40 with courage, gained morale and lost no more game.
