The Spanish Agency for Food and Nutrition Security (Aesan) ordered the immediate removal of a certain type of rice from all supermarkets and food sales establishments. This is the product “4 Golden Savoury Rice Steam Bags” from Iceland brand. However, the withdrawal applies only to specific lots, namely those with expiration date prior to November, specifically until November 16, 2025.
According to it, this rice is in the frozen section and is marketed in packaging of 600 grams. Aesan clarified that this product is available exclusively in the supermarkets of the Belgian Iceland chain, and was distributed in some autonomous communities in Spain, such as Andalusia, Murcia and Valencian community. However, it warns that some isolated lots may have reached other regions: “Caution must be taken if this food is available.”
The decision to remove the product from the market is consumer risks for consumers with certain food allergies. According to the sanitary agency, it is recommended that this rice be not consumed by people who have crustacean allergy, any type of fish, mollusks or milk, including traces of these foods.
Aesan made this decision after a detailed analysis of the potential risks associated with product consumption. The unplaced presence of allergen can be a threat to sensitive people, leading to serious adverse reactions, so market withdrawal was considered the most appropriate measure.
Sanitary authorities have been reinforcing controls and monitoring of food products to ensure consumer safety. This is not the first time a food product has been removed due to risks to specific population groups, being a common procedure in similar situations.
Consumers who have acquired this rice are advised to check the expiration date before consumption. If they have a package included in the affected lot, they should avoid ingestion and contact the point of sale for clarification on product return.
In addition, establishments that market the product have been informed about the need to remove it from shelves and warn customers who may have previously purchased rice.
Aesan underlines the importance of effective communication in these cases to minimize risks to public health. Information on the withdrawal of the product has been widely released to ensure that consumers are aware of the alert and can take the necessary precautions.
Food security is a priority for regulatory entities, which continue to work to prevent risk situations and ensure that food available on the market complies with all safety requirements.
Authorities recommend that consumers be aware of any updates on this case and other similar notifications that may arise, reinforcing the importance of reading labels and consulting official sources to obtain reliable information about food safety.
