Boyko Borisov, leader of the GERB Conservative Party, the greatest formation in the Bulgarian coalition government, supported the sale to Ukraine of two roller -manufacturing nuclear reactors of a canceled atomic plant project, Bulgaria National Radio (BNR) reported Thursday (BNR) on Thursday (BNR) .
“It will be beneficial from the economic point of view for Bulgaria,” Borisov told journalists in Parliament, according to BNR.
The Ukrainian Rada on Monday approved the purchase of VVR-1000 reactors, acquired by Bulgaria from Russia in 2015, to expand the Ukrainian nuclear power plant in Jmelnitski, which will have four operational reactors.
The initial price of the operation is 600 million euros, endorsed by the Ukrainian Energy Commission in January.
Rafael Grossi, director of the International Agency for Atomic Energy (OIEA), guaranteed technical support for Ukraine in this operation in a recent visit to the country.
The Bulgarian ultra -nationalist party ‘Resurrection’ rejected the sale, arguing that Bulgaria could use these reactors to strengthen their nuclear sector.
The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), of Prorrusa trend and current coalition partner of Gerb, has opposed the sale of reactors hoping to revive Bélene’s atomic plant project.
Borissov said, however, that the Socialists do not expect the operation, highlighting that both parties made mutual concessions to ensure government formation.
The Bulgarian Parliament will decide the sale after receiving the report from the Ministry of Energy at the end of March, according to BNR.
