(Bloomberg) – Tata Communications is now responsible for recording and broadcasting 80% of the world’s sporting events, thanks to the 2022 acquisition of an American live production company and video broadcast, a senior executive said.
The acquisition of Switch Enterprises three years ago contributed to Tata generating content for events such as Rally World Championship, DP World Tour, the South Korean League and Sail GP, said the company’s vice president and head of global media, Dhaval Ponda, in an interview.
“We are largely a virtual stadium in the world,” said Ponda, adding that the sports content generated by the Tata group unit reaches a two billion audience of people.
Ponda said the company has already delivered more than 100,000 events and more than 15,000 hours of streaming in 190 countries. These data, in other words, mean that most of the live content is probably qualified by Tata Communications.
O, from estimates of US $ 104.9 billion in 2024, according to Custom Market Insights Research and Consulting Company. Although the number takes into account all video and audio transferred in real time, including social networks, Tata Communications’ business refers only to the production of back-end content for networks that already have the rights to broadcast events.
Ponda refused to provide guidance on financial goals for the media industry, but said he is “confident of remaining a high growth business for the Tata Communications digital portfolio.”
Continues after advertising
Switch’s acquisition helped the company open a new production and delivery installation in Los Angeles to support the growing number of global live content customers, he said. Tata Communications has also expanded its portfolio to cover everything, from concerts to Cricket and Rugby World Cups, University Sports and Post University, news events and the Oscars, he added.
