Ukraine has little chance to survive Russian attacks without US support, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday after telephone calls this week with US President Donald Trump.

“It will probably be very, very, very difficult. And of course, in all difficult situations, you have a chance. But we will have little chance – little chance of surviving without the support of the United States ”

On Wednesday (12), Trump discussed the war in separate calls with Putin and, in the first major step of the US president towards diplomacy in a conflict he promised to end quickly.

Trump later said that he was not practical for Kiev to join NATO and that Ukraine was unlikely to recover all its lands. Russia, which attached Crimea in 2014, launched a large -scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Ukraine requires Russia to withdraw from the captured territory and says it should receive NATO affiliation or equivalent safety guarantees to prevent Moscow from attacking again.

Zelensky said in the interview that not to end the war, but to obtain a ceasefire agreement to suspend some global sanctions to Russia and allow the Moscow military to regroup.

“This is really what he wants. He wants to take a break, prepare, train, take some sanctions because of ceasefire, ”he added.

Trump said his was a good conversation that lasted more than an hour, while Kremlin said it lasted almost an hour and a half.

Zelensky’s office said the conversation lasted about an hour. The US president said the call “it was very well.”
