Τεχνητή Νοημοσύνη: Μπορεί η Ευρώπη να Ανταγωνιστεί τις ΗΠΑ και την Κίνα;

On Tuesday, February 11th, the President of the European Commission announced from the Summit for (AI) in Paris that the artificial intelligence in the artificial intelligence, including a new European fund of 20 billion euros for “Gigafactories AI”.

In her speech she welcomed the European AI Champions initiative, which promises 150 billion euros from providers, investors and industry, as well as the new Invest AI initiative that promises 50 billion euros, ie a total of 200 billion euros for investment. Artificial intelligence in Europe.

“We will focus on industrial and critical applications. It will be the largest public and private partnership in the world to develop credible artificial intelligence, “the Commission President said.

Artificial Intelligence: Why the EU is the Great Lost - How "Lost the Train"

How did the EU lose the train of AI

Unfortunately, these announcements come very slowly when the ship has now sailed and have already presented enormous innovations in the area.

As the revolution in the field of artificial intelligence has passed to another level in the US and China, Europe is still dealing with legislative interventions for rules.

ACT may be an ambitious legislative initiative, but in essence it is simply an observer and not a protagonist. Many experts reasonably ask the question: What is the reason to legislate for something before you even get it?

And unfortunately Europe is far away with its own research, technology, know -how and experience. Mostly, companies that are seriously involved in the production of innovative artificial intelligence systems are almost completely absent from the EU.

We would say that, in the field of artificial intelligence, Europe still remains in the Middle Ages, while the US and China have reached the Enlightenment.

Europe is completely absent from technology giants that could successfully compete in China and America, completely absent companies that could produce microchips necessary in the development of computing power or giant data centers already available .

So far, Europe’s stance on new technologies, especially those that have to do with the internet, is to passively monitor developments and legislate for the use of products and services belonging to others.

Where is European Google? Where are European Facebook, X or Tiktok?

Where is the European? Where are European social networks such as, x or? What has the EU to show on these giants who monopolize users’ participation worldwide? Where are European companies that make microchips?

Unfortunately, all this is absent from the European “stadium” and the EU is left to play the role of referee in games played on foreign stadiums by foreign teams.

The opponents first innovate and then regulate. The EU imposes regulatory rules before it even invested in new technologies. It is certainly not the most victorious strategy.

That is why analysts are skeptical of the recent announcements by the President of the Commission. As many say, the new Invest AI program will only be a subsidy program, complex and inadequate and another triumph of European bureaucracy.

In the end, the European continent will continue to be old and atherosclerotic. And even at a critical time for the future, when competitors have already made gigantic steps in the most important technology of our century.
