Athlete of the XV of Jaú suffers sudden illness and dies before play – 16/02/2025 – Sport

Midfielder Gabriel Popó, from the XV de Jaú, died on Sunday morning (16) in the club’s accommodation, where he was concentrated before the match against União Suzano for the Paulista Championship series A3.

According to the state’s interior club, the 26 -year -old was found by his roommate, just before the delegation breakfast. He was even taken to the Holy House of Jaú, but did not resist and died.

“In this moment of pain, we express our family solidarity, club members, friends and companions of Gabriel Popó. May his memory be honored and that we can find the strength to face this irreparable loss,” the club wrote on his official Instagram account.

The athlete was not related to the match of the XV of Jaú this Sunday, but the confrontation was postponed to the FPF (Paulista Football Federation). In a statement, the entity regretted what happened.

“The Paulista Football Federation regrets the death of 26 -year -old athlete Gabriel Popó, the XV of Jaú. Sunday’s confrontation against União Suzano by Paulistan A3 Sicredi was suspended,” said the entity on its official website.

Also through a statement, the XV of Jaú stated that the cause of death will be investigated.

“The cause of the death is under investigation and will be confirmed as soon as the report is issued by the Jaú XV body,” the team said.

Hired by the team of the city of Jaú at the beginning of the season, Gabriel Popó has had stints in Santa Cruz, Sampaio Corrêa, Souza and Linense, among other clubs.

In 2025, the midfielder had played only one game against Bandeirante earlier this month.
