Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski responded to the statement of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Greenland.

European countries will not create a common army in response to the threats of Russia, said Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski in an interview with TVP World, which was broadcast on Saturday late night. According to Reuters report, TASR reports this.

Sikorski responded to the statement of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenský, who on Saturday called on the Munich Security Conference to create the European Army. According to Zelensky, European countries should admit the possibility that in certain cases they will not be able to rely on the United States aid. At the same time, the President claimed that the countries would only receive respect for Washington thanks to the strong army.

In response to the question of the possible creation of the European army, the minister said that “we should be careful (when using) such terms, because people could understand them differently”.

“If you understand the unification of the armies of countries, it will not happen,” the minister said. “However, I am a proponent of Europe, the European Union to develop its own defense capacities,” Sikorski explained. In his words, the EU is already building a strengthened brigade.

The head of Polish diplomacy stressed that if the US wanted to strengthen the defense, it should be at several levels. In his words, this is a national level, NATO level and also the EU, Reuters writes.

At the same time, the Polish minister reiterated that the presence of Warsaw units in Ukraine is “an option, because Poland’s duty to NATO is to protect the east wing, its own territory”.
