Food waste has found unexpected use: it makes a brandy or beer

Food upcycling may sound modern and trendy. But it is a completely simple reduction in the amount of waste, but it can also taste great.

You’ve probably got used to the clothes on your clothes. You have almost certainly met IS with common waste made from waste. Maybe they were bowls of long -scratched elpie. Or a bag sewn from old trousers. Maybe even sometimes you make something like this at home to make a new sense. In today’s world, where wasting is a really big ecological problem, this resource investigation is really merit. Wasting, however, is by far not only concerned with “durable” objects.

Process it all

If you look at it up close, it’s not a novelty. For example, the peel – the most common waste in home cooking. From vegetable you will prepare a strong and good broth, to which you can also add defensive bones from lunch. You dry the citrus peels and smell the apartment or use them as a domestic cleaner booster. (You don’t know how to do it? Look in the box and definitely try it.) You’ll let the applee ferment on vinegar or cook, along with the cores, a perfect jelly. Similarly, you can deal with a variety of remnants that appear at home. So they actually become a raw material and not unnecessary waste.

Waste

But a novelty is that “waste” as a full source has also started using food manufacturers. It helps to reduce their waste. “According to agriculture and nutrition organization, up to a third of food produced, which is about 1.3 billion tonnes. Upcycling helps minimize this loss, which reduces energy waste, water and other sources that have been spent on food production, ”says Mariana Sochorová from Rohlík.cz.

Part of unnecessarily discarded foods are caused by households. There everyone has to reach into their conscience themselves and explore how they buy responsibly and if it does not throw away anything unnecessarily. Another significant part, however, is the waste resulting from food processing. At the same time, some manufacturers are already adding peels to crackers or biscuits, as the croissant and the bio -room Zemanka do. For example, the squeezed pulp, for example, uses Landcraft to make great brandy and liqueurs – as if you may have done it at home. The third part of the discarded food is caused by sellers. It is thrown away what will not be sold, even if it might still be usable. Yet the croissant now began to brew his own beer from a hard, unsalable pastry.

Homemade Citrus Hand Cleaner

Take a large jar or similar glass and cram the citrus into it peel. Pour them vinegar – Ordinary fermented or white – so that they are completely submerged. Otherwise they begin to mold. You do not have to have a huge amount at the same time, you can add them to the glass gradually. Leave the base for two to three weeks. Then you can pour it and throw it out, or just cast it and add new peels and a new batch of vinegar.

Pour the finished base best into a spray bottle. If you want to strengthen the cleaning effect, add a few drops of essential tea-tree oil. And if you use the cleaner, for example, for a kitchen and furniture, it is recommended to arrive about 50 CL (shot) of high -percentage alcohol such as vodka. It speeds up evaporation and thus drying of the middle. You can use it as a universal home cleaner. It is very effective, moreover disinfecting and acting antibacterial. But it will also help in the fight against the scale, including that in the toilet bowl.

Mini -Savings: “Why not cooked a great beer from unsold rolls!”

Mariana Sochorová, a manager of strategic projects, which is also in charge of the UPCYCKYCED FOOD section at Rohlík.cz.

How do you imagine the formation of upcycled products?
They are basically as well as conventional products. The main difference is that one or more input raw materials get a second chance. For example Cascara, a by -product of coffee processing – specifically dried peel and pulp of coffee cherries. The roasting of coffee appeared only in the fifteenth century, but the skin of coffee cherries had been infused for hundreds of years before the preparation of a hot drink. This method almost disappeared after the discovery of roasting and the coffee peels have almost stopped using. Cascara is sweet, has similar fresh coffee tones, slightly smoke aroma and is a simple way to enjoy coffee a little differently.

What hygienic standards apply to food upcycling?
It may sound like that, but it’s not strange at all. All raw materials used in food production are under the same strict supervision as all other raw materials used. It must meet the same legislative demands on quality. Therefore, there is no health risk from this perspective.

Is there anything that can be greatly cocked up and would we think of it?
Try a beer, for example, which was used to use non -life pastries. Another example is the brewing biscuit bowns. UPCYCED RACE can also be a great source of protein. In our protein ice creams you will find part of the ordinary whey protein replaced by plant protein from pumpkin seeds. They have already served as a source of oil, but the molding still has a lot to offer. Moreover, by -products are often a great source of protein or fiber.
