The Municipal Deputy of Olhão for the PAN-People-Animals-Nature, Alexandre Pereira, reacted in a statement to the PS candidate’s interview with the 2025 local elections, published in the newspaper Barlavento. The party criticizes the repetition of promises and the absence of concrete solutions to the county’s problems, stating that Olhão needs “A New Way.”
Inaccessible housing and real estate speculation
According to the PAN, the price of houses in Olhão has reached historical maximums, making it impossible for many residents to buy or rent housing at affordable prices. The party accuses the PS, which has been governor for almost 50 years to deliver the city to real estate speculation.
“If they wanted to solve this problem, why haven’t they done so far?”asks Alexandre Pereira, advocating the creation of a municipal accessible lease program, promoting the rehabilitation of vacant buildings and ensuring housing at controlled costs in the new enterprises.
Fishing port and luxury tourism pressure
The denounces the lack of responses on the future of the fishing port, which houses hundreds of vessels and is essential for the local economy. At the same time, it criticizes the conversion of the riverside front into marinas and luxury ventures.
“Olhão grows up on Ria, but for who will be the future of the city? For the eyes or who can pay marinas and luxury apartments? ”questions the party.
The PAN argues that the fishing port is treated as a priority infrastructure, modernizing the working conditions of fishermen and promoting a tourist load and vessel management plan in Ria Formosa to ensure the environmental sustainability of the region.
Protection of Ria Formosa and Sustainable Tourism
PAN criticizes the uncontrolled growth of the number of vessels in Ria Formosa, warning of the lack of studies on the load capacity of the Ria and the absence of solutions to the illegal evictions of vessels.
“The PS says it wants to protect Ria, but taking care of the Ria is not bringing even more boats to this already fragile ecosystem,” states Alexandre Pereira.
The party proposes clear limits for the number of vessels, infrastructure creation for the collection and treatment of nautical waste and independent scientific studies on the environmental impact of tourist activity in Ria Formosa.
Mobility and parking: increasing chaos
PAN warns of the worsening traffic and parking problems in Olhão, aggravated by the loss of 800 seats due to real estate projects.
“What does the PS propose? Nothing.”
To combat this problem, the party proposes a sustainable urban mobility plan that includes better public transport, peripheral parking and more infrastructure for pedestrian and bike paths.
Lack of transparency in governance
The PAN denounces the lack of dialogue of the socialist executive, stating that Olhão’s governance ignores the opposition and blocks the democratic debate. The Party criticizes the absence of answers about projects such as the Urban Park and the successive postponements of the works of the Fire Barracks and the Municipal Kennel/Gatil.
“It has passed eight months and the camera continues without giving any response”, denounces the PAN, referring to the lack of clarifications about the new Kennel/Gatil project.
The party defends the online transmission of municipal and parish assemblies, the implementation of a participatory budget and the guarantee of equality of representation of all political forces.
“Olhão needs change, not more of the same”
The PAN concludes by stating that the eyes know the promises of the PS in campaign and the cycles of stagnation in power.
“Do we want another four years of promises that fall out in the air, while problems get worse?” Asks Alexandre Pereira.
The party states that being opposed is not just to criticize, but to present alternatives, and defends a future where people, the environment and social justice are the true priority.
“The change does not come from who created the problem-the change is with those who have the courage to break with this system and present real solutions to Olhão!”concludes the statement
