The Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, expressed the regret for the death of Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa and praised him as “a unique personality in sports leading” and the “most titled club presidents” in worldwide terms.

In a personal and government name, the prime minister expressed “deep grief and solidarity” to family, friends and FC Porto.
Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, former president of FC Porto, a club in which he established himself as the most titled and former leader of world football between 1982 and 2024, died today at the age of 87, a victim of cancer.
Pinto da Costa had been diagnosed with a prostate cancer in September 2021 and aggravated his health in recent weeks, less than a year after the defeat to the club’s presidency against André Villas-Boas.
