Thousands of Serbs blocked the center of Kragujevac on Saturday as part of the latest students led by protest in connection with the collapse of the concrete shelter at the railway station in Novi Sad from 1 November last year. TASR informs according to AFP and portal B92.

Thousands of demonstrators, who also commemorated the Day of Statehood in Serbia on Saturday, blocked the main boulevard in Kragujevci. The crowds of people gathered in the city center from the morning and called on the reigning government for an incident in Novi Sad to take more responsibility, but also to carry out reforms in the country.

The protesters who filled the streets waved flags on which the bloody fingerprint of the palm was depicted, which represents the logo of nationwide mass protests. As a result of extensive demonstrations that have been gaining intensity since November, students of universities across the country have been stood up in Serbia by several high -ranking officials, including Prime Minister Miloš Vučevič.

The Kragujevca blockade is the third all -day urban demonstration after similar events were held in Novi Sad and the capital Belgrade, recalls AFP.

In the collapse of a concrete shelter at the Novosadian railway station, 15 people were killed. The incident occurred after extensive renovation of the building. The victims of life subsequently triggered a wave of anger in connection with suspicions of corruption and calls for responsibility.

At 10.52 h CET, at a time when the tragedy occurred, the demonstrators honored the victims for 15 minutes of silence, writes B92.

Saturday’s event took place on the occasion of the anniversary of the outbreak of the Serbian uprising against Turkish rule in 1804, which resulted in the creation of the Serbian state within the Ottoman Empire. The fifteenth of February is a public holiday in Serbia.

Officially organized stateness celebrations were held in Sremska Mitrovica. Even there, however, the locals have been meeting students with the slogan these days: “Whatever you go where you want, you are not welcome anywhere”.

According to media information, the number of demonstrators in Kragujevci was around 27,000, which is four times less than in the protest in Belgrade Square Slavija, writes B92. On the other hand, more than 120,000 people gathered in Sremská Mitrovica, where the President Aleksandar Vučič also performed with the portal, with Serbian national flags and slogans supporting Vučič.
