Palestinians undergo buildings destroyed in the field of Jabalia, north of the city of Gaza.
Ceasefire remains, but there are no promises of peace. Here are the most devastating numbers of the war that has no end yet.
This Monday marks the 500th day of the Israeli War in Gaza, triggered by the attack of Hamas to Israel on October 7, 2023.
Once inhabited by 2.2 million Palestinians, today the track is a “ghost town”: 90% of housing were damaged.
New images captured with a drone show miles reduced to rubble.
According to sources of the Israeli government, the Ministry of Health of Gaza and UN agencies, here are the most devastating numbers of war, cited by the agency.
- People killed in Israel on October 7, 2023: about 1,200
- Hostages to Gaza: 251
- Hostages that remain in Gaza: 73, including 3 taken before October 7, 2023
- Hostages in gaza that is thought to be dead: 36, including one of before October 7, 2023
- Palestinians killed in Gaza: More than 48,200 (more than half, women and children, says the Ministry of Health of Gaza)
- Palestinians injured in Gaza: over 111,600
- Israelite soldiers killed since October 7, 2023: 846
- Percentage of the population of displaced Gaza: About 90%
Of the latter, many have returned to see the rubble, but others cannot go back yet. Although 53,000 of the 64,000 evacuates returned to their homes, 13 of the 45 affected communities remain uninhabitable Due to the risks of ongoing safety and the slow pace of reconstruction, according to the Tekuma Authority of Israel, which is supervising the reconstruction effort.
According to Israeli authority, 83% of the southern region have already returned. However, the recovery of these 13 communities is very late, and it is not expected that their reconstruction is completed before 2026.
Hostage families still arrested in Gaza by Hamas announced a 500 -minute fasting in protest against the administration of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“As well as it is essential to maintain pressure on our leaders so that this agreement continues to move forward, it is equally fundamental that hostage families feel supported and know that they are not alone,” Abbey Onn says.
His cousin, Off Calderon, was recently released from Hamas’s captivity. “Fasting for 500 minutes is the least I can do to show solidarity with the hell that hostages and their families have lived in these last 500 days.”
The ceasefire remains for now, but under a slight flame. The current phase of the truce will expire in March and it is not yet clear whether the two parts will agree to extend it and start negotiations for a longer lasting ceasefire.
