“Associate” campaign starts in Olhão and travels through Algarve schools [vídeo]

The “Association” campaign has returned to schools to promote student associativism as an essential tool for civic participation and skills development. Aimed at elementary and secondary students across the country, the initiative began this Monday at Dr. Francisco Fernandes Lopes Secondary School in Olhão.

In the coming months, several sessions will be held in schools of different regions, providing a space for awareness and dialogue between technicians from the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ), students, educational agents and youth involved in student associations. The objective is to clarify doubts about the creation and operation of student associations, encourage the formation of new structures and highlight the benefits of associative involvement, from the organization of initiatives to the defense of the interests of the school community.

In addition, the campaign includes training actions aimed at teachers interested in supporting students in the development of projects within the scope of student associativism. In the Algarve, the program continues this Thursday, February 20, at 10:30 am, at Padre António Martins de Oliveira Secondary School (Spamol), in Lagoa.

The regional director of the IPDJ at Algarve, Custódio Moreno, and his technical team are traveling several schools in the region in order to reinforce the importance of associativism with students.

“The IPDJ is convinced that the ‘Associa-Te’ campaign will inspire a generation of more participatory, autonomous and committed students in the construction of a more inclusive and active school,” said Paulo Santos, vice president of the Board of Directors.

The initiative is based on the National Plan for the Incentive to Student Association, framed in the legal regime of Youth Associativism and Ordinance No. 286/2020 of 12 December. Its goal is to encourage young students to create student associations, reinforcing their role in promoting active participation and democratic citizenship.

This year, the campaign brings a reinforcement to support student associations through the “Associa-Te” program, which encourages and values the activities developed by these organizations in basic and secondary education.

The program aims to streamline the school community, promote sociability among students, stimulate non -formal learning and foster the civic and democratic participation of young people. Thus, it intends to ensure that students have the resources necessary to implement projects with positive impact on the school environment and society.
