Previous coalition negotiations failed. Neither party showed when the results can be expected.
The Conservative Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) and the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) have renewed negotiations on the possible creation of the government coalition, Monday said ÖVP. According to the DPA report, TASR reports this.
“There are talks on whether cooperation and conclusion of the Government Agreement is possible,” said ÖVP.
The negotiations were also confirmed by the SPÖ, although neither party reported when the outcome of the interviews can be expected. The media speculated about the possible end of the interviews by the middle of the following week, writes DPA. According to reports, the parties are trying to agree on a two -year budget.
Since the September parliamentary elections, several attempts to form a government have failed. The first attempt of ÖVP and SPÖ to create a coalition failed in January. The NeoS Liberal Party, which withdrew from the negotiations, was also part of the negotiations. The bilateral coalition interviews between ÖVP and SPÖ have been accompanied by concerns whether these two traditional Austrian parties will be able to achieve an agreement due to their different ideas on how to overcome the country’s economic crisis and reorganize the state budget.
Negotiations failed several times
Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen, after the failure to form a government, commissioned it by compiling the chairman of the Free Party of Austria (FPÖ) Herbert Kickl. However, the meeting of the winner of the September parliamentary elections FPÖ with ÖVP also failed last week on Wednesday.
ÖVP and SPÖ should only have a tight majority in the event of a coalition. However, the Green and NEOS Party indicated that these two parties would support these two parties, writes DPA.
The far right -wing FPÖ on Wednesday after the shipwreck of coalition talks with the conservative ÖVP called for new elections. Opinion surveys are attributed to FPÖ 33 percent of the votes, an increase over the outcome of the elections in which it won 29 percent of the votes.
More than 130 days have passed since the parliamentary elections in Austria without forming a government. The country has never previously happened that the winning parties were unable to form a new government for so long.
