Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said the country should bring together some initiatives that have already been dealt with in the Brazilian presidency in the G20 and intensify the debate during COP30, which will be held in Belém (PA) in the second half.

He highlighted two important topics: the integration of carbon credit markets and the payment for environmental services.

Haddad participates in the panel “a path to the resilience of emerging markets” at the IMF conference in Al-ula, Saudi Arabia, and was asked about resilience to the forces of nature and the organization of COP30.

Regarding the carbon market, Haddad highlighted the partnership with the IMF and said that the discussion of carbon market integration models to prevent countries from using the climate crisis to raise commercial barriers as a pretext for environmental protection.

Already on the payment of environmental services, the minister stressed that there are many emerging economies who spend considerable amounts of resources to maintain their forests.

During the presidency of the G20, Brazil reinforced the proposal of the Forest Forest Fund (TFFF), an investment fund focused on preservation.

The intention, according to Haddad, is to format the architecture of this fund and deepen discussions on both topics during COP30.

He argued that this is an important agenda and stressed that the guidance of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is to coincide the economic and social-environmental agendas.

“It doesn’t seem to be impossible to reconcile these multiple interests in an agenda that actually demands more physical, social and environmental sustainability for the world,” he said.
