In Petrobras event, the petista states that republican rates are breaking with a free trade tradition
The President (PT) said this Monday (17.FEV.2025) that “all day” United States President Donald Trump makes threats. He said the US country is breaking with the tradition of the 1980s of encouraging free trade and defending democracy. According to him, Brazil is a country without international differences, but it will not accept “Desaforo”.
“So I wonder, where’s democracy? Cade the respect for the free transit of the human being, if you have free traffic of capital, where is the free trade that was so preached? And then it begins to threaten the world. Every day has a threat, every day there is something ”he declared.
“We will not accept any challenge”the petista said, to declare that Brazil is a country of peace and that he prefers a hug to a punch and a kiss to a bite.
In saying that Trump is contradicting the free trade tradition of the 1980s, Lula referred to him as the “New President of the United States of North America”.
“It destroys that discourse from the 1980 Washington consensus of the [Ronald] Reagan and Margaret Thatcher that the business was to open the borders, it was not to have a commercial barrier, it was free trade, that we had to buy everything, which had not to have imposed, that had not to be hindered. This was the logic of Washington consensus, and Brazil accepted ”he declared.

The Minister of Finance, said on Thursday (13.FEV) that the trade relations with the United States. He stressed to maintain conversations with the vice president and head of the MDIC (Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services), Geraldo Alckmin, on the subject.
