A volcanic bomb under Europe: What dangers do Lake Lacher See present?

Experts warn about the natural danger of Lake Laacher See’s picturesque, located in the center of Germany.

Scientists have discovered that a powerful volcano is hidden under the lake, whose awakening could become catastrophic for the whole of Europe.

The lake itself formed after a colossal rash. The magmatic chamber was emptied, and the upper layers of the soil collapsed inside. The resulting basin was filled with water.

The last known eruption of this volcano took place 13,000 years ago. Following her, in the atmosphere were thrown over 20 cubic kilometers of magmatic material, causing one of the most powerful volcanic disasters in Europe. The flames expanded within a radius of 60 kilometers. Volcanic emissions darkened the sun, and the earth was immersed in darkness and cold.

Today, volcanic activity is observed under the lake again. There are small earthquakes, detectable only with the help of special devices, caused by the magma movement. One of the signs of instability is the release of carbon dioxide in the lake area. Another worrying phenomenon is the thermal abnormalities, manifested by an excessively high temperature of the lake water, which alarms scientists.

The date of the next rash remains impossible to predict. For now, we only have to monitor the processes that take place in this area.
