Lausanne’s Prix, one of the world’s most prestigious dance competitions, has been a trampoline for the great talents of classical and contemporary dance for over 50 years. In this year’s edition, two young Algarve dancers, Rita Salazar and Sky Natzke, stood out when selected among the five Young Creation Award 2025 finalists, a contest dedicated to the new generation of choreographers and interpreters held on February 5, at Switzerland.
At the age of 17, Rita Salazar is currently a student at the National Dance Conservatory and was the choreography dancer “I Wonder What I Look Like in Your Eyes”, created by Giullia Philips, also a student at the Conservatory. Sky Natzke, who also started his journey as a dancer, participated in the competition in the choreography aspect, featuring the play “Untitled”, played by dancer Timothé Mielle. Sky Natzke is currently a student at Tanz Akademie Zürich.
The 2025 edition of the Young Creation Award featured 56 choreographies from 24 countries, of which only five were selected for the final, demonstrating the level of excellence and competitiveness of the event. Although Rita Salazar and Sky Natzke have not won the final award, their presence in the decisive phase of the competition represents a remarkable achievement, highlighting them in one of the most demanding and respected contests in the dance world.
Rita Salazar has been awarded in several national and international contests, consolidating her promising course in dance. Both she and Sky Natzke have started their formation at the Algarve Dance Company, being now recognized in one of the most important stages of world dance.
The presence of these two young Algarvians does not reinforce the emerging talent of the Algarve region and underlines the importance of this competition in the discovery and projection of elite dancers and choreographers.
