How to prepare a garden for a new season
Before the arrival of spring, it is the ideal time for several garden work that will prepare your garden for the next year. For example, start by removing old parts of plants. Cut the dried stems, blooming flowers and damaged branches so that the plants can grow stronger and healthier. Instead of a thorough raking leaves from the beds, you can leave this layer in place, as it can serve as a natural fertilizer and soil protection from frost. The leaves also protect the roots from cold and create a refuge for useful insects.
The end of winter is also the ideal time to maintain trees and shrubs. Some tree species need to trim branches to support healthy growth and shaping. Now that it is not too hot, it is also the ideal time to plant new trees.
Spring in our country is characterized by mild temperatures, which means that there will be no need to water so much. The trees have enough time to take root before the summer heat comes. Another work that you can boldly start is to remove grass from unwanted places such as walkways and terraces. If the temperatures remain above the freezing point, the soil is soft, which facilitates the removal of weeds and grass that could compete with new seedlings in the spring.
What plants to plant at the end of winter
At the end of winter, it is the ideal time to plant some plants that manage lower temperatures and will have time to take root before the heat. For example, you can plant bulbs such as tulips, daffodils or crocuses according to the place where you live. These flowers are durable and beautifully bloom as soon as the first spring days come.
If you have strawberries in the garden, you can now dig them, take home and place them in flowers with quality soil. Inside the house they will have perfect conditions for growth and support earlier crops. In addition, you can start sowing some herbs such as parsley or thyme that tolerates spring temperatures well. There is a lot of work in the garden throughout the year. So do not neglect thorough preparation before the new season and your garden will only flourish.
