Bus Falls in Barranco and 31 people die in Bolivia

Place is a “very sharp slope” road and full of curves

At least 31 people died and 15 were injured today in a road accident in Bolivia after a bus crashed into a ravine in the city of Yocalla, Potosi, in the south of the country, police said.

Potosí Region Police Command spokesman, Limberth Choque, told local press that the bus “from San Jose company that went from Potosí to Oruro ran near the city of Yocalla, at a depth of approximately 800 meters.”

The bus had left in the morning of the city of Potosí and intended to arrive in the city of Oruro, 311 kilometers away, police said.

“Upon receiving the report, the entire ambulance network that exists (in Potosí) was mobilized, 15 people injured were rescued and we have 31 people who lost their lives,” said shock.

The delegate explained that the firefighters and other rescuers recovered the 31 lifeless bodies, which were transferred to Morgue from Potosí Public Hospital.

Shock noted that the place where the bus has fallen is a road of “very sharp slope”, also full of curves that should be avoided, which increases the presumption that the driver drove the vehicle at high speed and at one point lost control and fell from the cliff.

Among the 15 injured are four children who, according to the medical report, are intensive care and have fractures in various parts of the body, while adults have fractures and other abdominal lesions that require studies to establish a better diagnosis.

Bolivian road accidents cause about 1,400 deaths and about 40,000 injured each year, and mainly due to human failures that can be avoided, according to official data.
