Israeli President Yicchak Herzog arrived on Tuesday to Budapest for an official state visit to the invitation of Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok. This is reported by TASR newsletter in Budapest, referring to the server Magyarnemzet.hu.

The official program of the Israeli Head of State began with the laying of wreaths on the Heroes’ Square (Hősök Tere).

Slyok invited Yicchak to visit by phone last March, when he stressed that Hungary is a close ally and best friend of Israel, as well as his strategic partner in Europe.

The Israeli President comes shortly after the visit of Foreign Minister Israel Gideon Saar, who met with the head of Hungarian diplomacy Péter Szijjártó on 23 January. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Hungary last November. Szijjártó said after a meeting with Saar that an invitation to Netanyahu is still true, as the warrant, which issued him last November, issued an international criminal court (ICC) in November is only a politically motivated decision.
