Lula receives president and prime minister of Portugal this Tuesday (18)

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) receives, on Tuesday (18), the president of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, for a state visit, from 11am.

The Portuguese entourage also has the country’s prime minister Luís Montenegro, who will meet Lula and ministers on Wednesday (19).

The delegation of the European country will be in Brazil throughout this week for meetings with the heads of the other powers of the country, and also to participate in the 14th Brazil-Portugal Summit.

The meeting brings together leaders from both countries to discuss and strengthen bilateral cooperation in various areas, such as defense, safety, justice, science, environment, trade, health and culture.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa began the visit to Brazil on Monday (17), in Recife. At the time, he received the granting of the title of Honorary Doctor causa from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE).

Due to the visit of the Portuguese authorities, the traffic of Avenida N1 will be closed in the Praça dos Três Powers to the height of the Parque das Nações Road (via L4), from 8am until the end of the reception ceremony.

Business

Portugal is an important commercial partner of Brazil in Europe. The Brazil-Portuguese Trade current in 2024 was US $ 4.7 billion. Brazilian exports were US $ 3.4 billion, with a national surplus of US $ 2.1 billion.
