Mercado recently announced its expansion plan to 2025, which includes the opening of 10 new supermarkets in Portugal, raising to 70 the total number of stores in the country. This plan contemplates the brand’s debut in the city of Lisbon, with two new stores planned. The first store in Lisbon will be inaugurated in Alta de Lisbon and will include, in addition to the supermarket, a new corporate office that will complement the existing headquarters in Vila Nova de Gaia. The second store will be located on Quinta do Lambert, at Lumiar.

In addition to openings in Lisbon, Mercado plans to expand to other municipalities, including Loures, Penafiel, Fafe, Leiria, Matosinhos, Palmela and Porto. The first inauguration is scheduled for March, in the municipality of Loures, with stores in Santa Iria de Azoia and Frielas.

To support this expansion, the company is recruiting for various positions, especially supermarket operators, maintenance assistants and warehouse operators for the logistics block. All employment offers include a training period with effective contract and compensation from the first day. During the formation, the Mercado covers all expenses, including food, transportation, stay and trips home every 15 days, reveals the.

What are the conditions offered?

In January 2025, the Mercado implemented a salary increase of 8.5% for all employees, setting the entry salary at 14,963.90 euros raw annuals, with progression up to 20,465.10 euros within four years. In addition, employees benefit from daily and additional food allowance for work on Sundays, holidays and night hours. With the fulfillment of objectives, an annual prize is attributed equivalent to an extra salary from the first year of seniority, increasing to two extra salaries after four years.

This expansion plan and the conditions offered reflect Mercado’s commitment to invest in the Portuguese market and provide stable and attractive job opportunities. Since its entry to Portugal in 2019, the company has been reinforcing its presence, currently with 60 stores and two logistics blocks in operation.

Mercado’s arrival in new locations, especially in the city of Lisbon, represents a significant milestone in the company’s growth strategy in the national territory. With these new openings, Mercado aims to be closer to Portuguese consumers, offering them a differentiated purchase experience and quality products.
